    Louisville-area girls golfers' 2024 high school season underway. Here are 10 best

    After ending a six-year championship drought in 2023 , the Sacred Heart Academy golf team looks primed to repeat in 2024.

    The Valkyries return four of their top five golfers from last year with seniors Emma Lindemoen and Charly Garner, junior Brooklynn Bohnert and sophomore Keira Yun.

    Grace Vernon was the only senior on last year’s Sacred Heart squad that won its 12 th state championship and first since 2017. Vernon committed to play at Centre College.

    Here’s a look at 10 of the top girls golfers from the Louisville area for the 2024 season. Selections were made based on finishes in last year’s regional and state tournaments and in the All-State points standings and on suggestions from area coaches.

    Players are listed alphabetically.

    Brooklynn Bohnert

    School: Sacred Heart

    Year: Junior

    What to know: Tied for sixth place in last year’s Region Six Tournament and finished 16 th at the state championships. Earned second-team All-State honors.

    Sophia DeFazio

    School: Mercy

    Year: Sophomore

    What to know: Tied for ninth place in last year’s Region Six Tournament and advanced to the first round of the state championships. Helped the Jaguars finish second in the regional.

    Charly Garner

    School: Sacred Heart

    Year: Senior

    What to know: Tied for sixth place in last year’s Region Six Tournament and tied for 29 th place at the state championships.

    School: Sacred Heart

    Year: Senior

    What to know: Won the Region Six title for the second straight year and finished seventh at the state championships. Earned first-team All-State honors.

    Heidi Mitchell

    School: Collegiate

    Year: Sophomore

    What to know: Finished in third place at last year’s Region Six Tournament and advanced to the first round of the state championships. Won the Louisville Junior Championship (13-15-year-old division) at Oxmoor Country Club earlier this month.

    Sofie Morris

    School: Shelby County

    Year: Junior

    What to know: Tied for 15 th place in last year’s Region Six Tournament and tied for 81 st place at the state championships.

    Grace Shepherd

    School: Bullitt East

    Year: Senior

    What to know: Runner-up in last year’s Region Five Tournament and advanced to the first round of the state championships.

    Ella Sizemore

    School: Manual

    Year: Sophomore

    What to know: Tied for sixth place in last year’s Region Six Tournament and tied for 53 rd place at the state championships.

    Avery Suter

    School: South Oldham

    Year: Junior

    What to know: Finished in 13 th place at last year’s Region Six Tournament and tied for 39 th place at the state championships. Won the Junior Falls Cities title (13-15-year-old division) last month at Long Run Golf Course.

    Keira Yun

    School: Sacred Heart

    Year: Sophomore

    What to know: Runner-up in last year’s Region Six Tournament and finished second at the state championships. Earned first-team All-State honors.
