A man is dead after being struck by a car while riding an electric mobility scooter in the Valley Station neighborhood Tuesday night.

Third Division officers responded to an accident in the 10000 block of Deering Road at around 11:17 p.m. and found 61-year-old Dennis Mannell Jr., who had been hit by a car, Louisville Metro Police spokesperson Matthew Sanders said. He was transported to UofL Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later identified his cause of death as blunt force trauma.

According to a preliminary investigation, the man appeared to be operating a Hoveround-style scooter and attempted to cross the road in a dark area. The driver of the other vehicle did not remain at the scene.

    The case remains under investigation.
