Good morning and welcome to August. (You can read today's eNewspaper here .)

We could see more scattered showers and thunderstorms today, according to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service in Louisville. We're expected to be mostly sunny and hot with a high around 96.

Here are this morning's top stories so far:

Louisville's new development alliance: In 2003, Cincinnati launched a nonprofit real estate development organization tightly focused on revitalizing the area that led to several new developments including housing and commercial space — and now, Louisville is trying to do the same.

The new Louisville Economic Development Alliance, a public-private partnership that Mayor Craig Greenberg has called a "national best practice," says its 55-member board will draw inspiration from cities like Cincinnati to help reduce population decline and connect disjointed economic efforts across the city. Government watchdogs, however, have occasionally criticized similar models for operating outside the typical system of checks and balances inside a city's government and creating a sole group of people with the power to make big decisions.

Read more about the group's aims and concerns from experts and city leaders through our story from Metro government reporter Eleanor McCrary and development reporter Matt Glowicki.
