Love County and Southern Oklahoma have been plagued with severe weather several times in the last few days. The first storm pelted Marietta with hail up to baseball size and strong winds. Damage was confined to roofs, trees and some windows broken by the hail. The Marietta siren was sounded several times when the county civil defense director, Bill Anderson, was advised by Oklahoma CD authorities that the town was being threatened by storm cells that could be serious. The Saturday night storm was the most serious with damage to the Carlyle Chevrolet building alone exceeding $30,000.

Approval of continued expansion of Interstate 35 to six lanes in southern Oklahoma was one of the high-lights of the recent meeting of the Oklahoma Transportation Commission.
