LOVELL — The Speaker Series of the Charlotte Hobbs Library welcomes Mary Morton Cowan, the award-winning children’s author of numerous books and articles on Thursday, July 18 at 4 p.m. Cowan will be presenting a program about “Trouble in Nathan’s Woods”, a novel for ages 8-12 set in 1917 New Hampshire.

Inspired by the author’s family members who lived in a large lumber camp during World War I, Cowan’s 11-year-old protagonist Nathan learns that enemy spies lurk in New Hampshire, where he lives in his family’s lumber camp.

The author has also published articles in more than 80 issues of children’s magazines, including Highlights for Children and Cobblestone, and has won a Best STEM Award for “Cyrus Field’s Big Dream: The Daring Effort to Lay the First Transatlantic Telegraph Cable” and a National Outdoor Book Award and outstanding natural history book award for “Captain Mac: the Life of Donald Baxter MacMillan, Arctic Explorer”.

This talk is in-person and on Zoom. For details and the link to join virtually, go to www.hobbslibrary.org . For queries, contact the Charlotte Hobbs Memorial Library at 207-925-3177.
