As soon as Maine adopted free school meals for all, Jeanne Lapointe Food Service Director for RSU 10 in Rumford, Maine, noticed a change. “The culture in our schools is so positive,” she said during a panel at the School Nutrition Association’s (SNA) Annual National Conference (ANC) in Boston this week. “Our administrators are so thrilled that money is no longer the issue that we are able to provide and nourish our students throughout the school day and our children can no longer feel that additional stress as well.”
High (altitude) school: Grant helps North Country students rebuild and fly an airplane
Students at a high school aviation program in North Conway are getting the chance to rebuild a defunct plane — and put it back in the air. The Mount Washington Valley Career and Technical Center in North Conway, New Hampshire and the Eastern Slope Aviation Academy in Fryeburg, Maine have received a $500,000 federal grant to fund the project. Over the next two years, that money will pay for the supplies, curriculum and instruction to help the students rehabilitate a 1971 Grumman American aircraft donated to the school.
