John Deere invests $7M in 234 acres for Lowell facility

Coldwell Banker Commercial Realty reports that John Deere purchased 234 acres in Lowell near the Illinois and Indiana border.

John Deere plans to build a 1.2 million-square-foot warehouse and distribution facility on the $7 million site, according to a press release.

“We at the Lowell Chamber of Commerce are very excited for this business to be coming to the town of Lowell, Indiana,” said Nancy Frigo, a representative of seller Hallmark Construction Co. and president of the Lowell Chamber of Commerce. “We look forward to having them here, as well as the positive economic impact for our community that will surely happen.”

Venture One, led by principal Mark Goode, will develop the site for John Deere. The company projects that the new facility will be longer on its side than the Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower), which is a 110-story, 1,451-foot skyscraper in Chicago's Loop.

The project is expected to create about 1,200 union construction jobs while it is being built, and 400 to 500 permanent positions once it is complete.

“South Lake County is ripe and ready to grow with this type of development, and provides easy access to the crossroads of America,” Frigo said.

The location is at the southwest corner of Interstate 65 South and Route 2.

John Deere was founded 185 years ago and is based in Moline, Illinois.
