BOSTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Multiple crashes, including a jackknifed semi-truck, snarled traffic on I-96 in western Ionia County Monday.

Michigan State Police say there were “several” crashes in both the east and westbound lanes between Alden Nash Avenue and Morrison Lake Road southeast of Lowell, where construction is happening.

In addition to the jackknifed semi, there were injuries reported when one vehicle was rear-ended, police said. They didn’t immediately say how many people were hurt or how seriously.

The Michigan Department of Transportation’s MiDrive website showed at least one of those crashes was reported shortly before noon.

The highway was shut down around the crashes for a short time, but has since reopened, MSP said. Still, backups continued.

“Remain alert and allow distance between you and the vehicle in front of you,” MSP advised in a post on social media .
