LOWELLVILLE, Ohio (WKBN) – It’s festival week in Lowellville. The 129th Mount Carmel Festival officially kicks off Wednesday night for four days of fun.

Lowellville’s Police Chief Rick Alli says he expects this to be one of the biggest and most successful festivals they’ve had in years.

On top of the nice weather, input from the community has sparked several improvements encouraging people to go downtown.

Alli says they typically have six to eight officers patrolling the festival, but this year they’re ramping things up.

“We’re expecting such a large crowd on Friday. We’re going to have over a dozen officers here for Friday and Saturday night because festival Friday is a big thing in Mahoning County, and we want everybody to feel safe. We’re going to make sure that we have it taken care of,” Alli said.

The festival kicks off at 6 p.m. Wednesday with the famous Babydoll Dance set for 10 p.m. The festival runs through this Saturday, ending with a fireworks show that night.
