Rapid Hiring Event for Teachers Hosted by Broome-Tioga BOCES Scheduled for Next Week
Broome-Tioga BOCES is hosting a rapid hiring event next week for those interested in becoming teacher aides in Broome and Tioga Counties this fall. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, July 24th from noon to 4 p.m. at the Instructional Support Center at 435 Glenwood Road in Binghamton. Teacher aides provide support to both teachers and students alike in the classrooms and potential candidates will be able to learn the responsibilities of an aide, fill out applications, and participate in immediate interviews and reference checks.
United Way of Tompkins County Announces Award & Impact Fund Recipients
United Way of Tompkins County (UWTC) announced their list of community members recognized for their contributions on Monday. United Way takes note of positions in the community who go above and beyond for Tompkins County by taking part in UWTC activities. They account for their community campaign chair, volunteer of the year, an “unsung” hero who contributed privately, a non-profit partner, and a business who was paramount to the program’s success. Troopers investigate fatal crash in Owego
On July 18, 2024, shortly after 1 p.m., New York State Police were dispatched to the construction area of State Route 17 in the town of Owego for a serious crash. According to police, a tractor-trailer and a motorcycle with two occupants collided shortly after 1 p.m. The collision left one-person deceased, and a second person was transported to Wilson Medical Center.

Binghamton resident arrested for identity theft, grand larceny in Owego
A 48-year-old Binghamton resident was arrested for identity theft and grand larceny following an incident in the Village of Owego earlier this year. Jamie M. Levene was charged with possession of a forged instrument in the second degree and identity theft in the first degree, both Class D felonies, as well as a felony count of grand larceny in the fourth degree.

Public meetings set for Tompkins County traffic safety plan
