State superintendent visits Career Tech Center

On May 7, Dr. Eric Mackey, the State Superintendent, visited the Lowndes County Career Technical Center to commemorate the completion of one million Learning Blade lessons. Middle schoolers have completed thousands of units in the Learning Blade curriculum.

Arthur Lewis of Hayneville Middle School served on an interview panel and described his experiences incorporating Blade into his computer science lesson.

During the event, Shameka Baker, director of career and technical education, and Samita Jeter, Superintendent of Lowndes County Public Schools receive the STEM Champion partnership award for the contribution Lowndes County’s Career Technical Education (CTE) program has contributed to the 1,000,000 Learning Blade lessons completed .

Learning Blade is a system of interactive student online lessons, instructor lesson plans and printable at-home exercises for kids in grades five through nine. Middle-schoolers learn about high-demand STEM (science technology engineering, math), CTE (career technical education) and computer science vocations while reviewing academics.

Over 400 online lessons in human-centered “missions” or stories allow students to explore intriguing occupations that are connected with Alabama state criteria. Teachers can also access dozens of lesson ideas that promote innovative project-based learning and classroom activities using common materials. Salute to our students and teachers.
