North Country Family Health Center awarded grant to expand care in Lewis County

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – The North Country Family Health Center is getting nearly $550,000 to help build a new primary care facility in Lowville.

In an announcement on Thursday, the organization was selected as an awardee for the Northern Border Regional Commission’s (NBRC) Catalyst Spring Program and will receive a $549,500 grant to assist in the expansion of rural primary healthcare in Lewis County.

The funds will allow NoCo to expand its infrastructure project at the 5402 Dayan Street facility to include construction of a new primary care suite in the lower level of the building previously occupied by a Physical Therapy office.

North Country Family Health recently acquired the Lowville Medical Associate’s (LMA) building.

The funds “will allow for the construction of a 4-exam room primary care suite with a provider office, nurse’s station, and reception area. The primary care suite will accommodate two providers who will care for patients full-time while addressing their health and social needs – focusing on health inequalities, social determinants of health, nutrition/food security, and disease prevention and management.”

We are thrilled to receive this award as it will allow us to move forward with the second phase of our construction project at the Dayan Street facility.

The first phase of the project will begin in August and is expected to last five months. Once construction is finished and approved by the state Department of Health, the Dayan Street building will become NoCo’s second Community Health Center location in Lewis County.
