    Lowville set one-day preliminary precipitation record on Wednesday

    LOWVILLE, N.Y. (WWTI) – The National Weather Service in Buffalo said that Lowville set a preliminary precipitation record in a 24-hour period.

    According to the NWS, Lowville set a preliminary record for rainfall with 6.02 inches at the Lowville Cooperative Station. The recording period was from 7 a.m. Wednesday, July 10 until 7 a.m. Thursday, July 11.

    This was the highest amount of rainfall since the weather station was established in November 1891.

    The previous record for the most rainfall in a 24-hour period was 4.78 inches on September 25, 2001.

    The record is preliminary and will be made official by the National Center for Environmental Information at a later date.
