    One person killed in car-Amish buggy crash in Lewis County

    LOWVILLE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Around 7:25 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, New York State Police were called to a crash involving a car and an Amish buggy on State Route 12, in Lowville.

    Police found that a 40-year-old man from Copenhagen in Lewis County was driving a 2020 Ford Escape and hit the rear of a buggy that was traveling in the same direction.

    After hitting the buggy, the man continued driving and left the scene, according to NYSP.

    All five people inside the buggy were ejected and a 21-year-old man was found dead at the scene, NYSP said.

    A 21-year-old man, 20-year-old woman, 18-year-old woman, and 16-year-old boy were also injured.

    The two males were taken to Lewis County Hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries. The two females suffered minor injuries, said NYSP.

    The man driving the Ford Escape was later found at his residence. Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation, according to state police.
