New Home, Jayton boys basketball repeat as region champs to return to state

New Home and Jayton will both being making return trips to the state boys basketball tournament next week.

The Leopards and Jaybirds each repeated as the champions of their respective regions with victories in the Texan Dome at South Plains College in Levelland on Saturday afternoon. New Home held off district foe Plains 44-39 in the I-2A title game, which followed Jayton's 51-43 win over Texline in the I-1A championship.

Both teams lost to the eventual state champion in last year's state tournament. New Home fell to Lipan in the 2A semifinals while Jayton succumbed to Graford in the 1A title game.

Benjamin, Gordon and Fayetteville will join Jayton for the 1A tournament. Lipan, Shelbyville and Thrall will be the other teams in the 2A tournament.
