LUBBOCK, Texas — On Monday, the City of Lubbock released the 2023 water quality report to the community.
“Lubbock’s Water Utilities water system continues to meet or surpass Safe Drinking
Water Standards established by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
as well as regulations set by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ),” the City of Lubbock said in the report.
In the report, the city broke down where Lubbock gets its water, how it is treated, the levels of contaminants detected and how they compare with drinking water rules and regulations.
16-year-old killed in North Lubbock shooting, police seeking information The report found arsenic levels averaged 1.5 parts per billion in 2023. This was a decrease from the 2022 water quality report that showed arsenic levels average 2.23 parts per billion. There was no lead in the city’s water, but the report showed there was a small amount of lead in water tested from customers’ taps in 2022.
“Irrigation runoff and rainfall carries pollutants into streams and water supplies,” the City of Lubbock said. “We can be part of the solution to reduce stormwater pollution.”
The City of Lubbock said the community can reduce the risks of stormwater pollution by repairing oil leaks in their vehicles, picking up after their pets, removing grass clippings and yard waste, not fertilizing before a rainstorm and more.
