Lubbock's Fresh American suddenly closes, another restaurant will honor gift cards

One of Lubbock's newer upscale eateries suddenly closed without explanation this week, just one week after celebrating its 1-year anniversary, and another restaurant is honoring their gift cards.

The Fresh American, 3715 114th St., opened on June 21, 2023, as a "west coast flare, and a Texas soul," restaurant. On July 2, 2024, the restaurant's Facebook page had vanished and phone calls went to voicemail. Reservations showed as unavailable on the business's website.

While Google still had the eatery listed as open on Tuesday, the building itself had gone dark. A chain could be seen locking the gates around noon.

Just before 8 a.m. Tuesday, Harrigan's Prime Grill, 11814 Indiana Ave., Suite #3, posted on social media that the steakhouse would honor any leftover Fresh American gift cards.

"We're honoring these cards at 50% of face value (after gratuity)," the restaurant stated. "It's sad to see a Lubbock restaurant close, but we want to thank you for shopping local. Come see us!"

The Fresh American's closure came shortly after Joe's Crab Shack, 5802 West Loop South 289, and Hooters, 4950 S. Loop 289. It is also the fourth business to close or is pending closure for July. The other businesses for June include Lubbock Escapes, 3025 34th St., which will close on July 14, and Urban Vibez Nutrition, 1110 Ave. J, which will close on July 3.
