LUBBOCK, Texas — Lubbock experiences a major economic surge during the summer due to an increased influx of travelers for youth sports, daytrips, weddings and more.

EverythingLubbock.com got some insights from John Osborne, President and CEO of the Lubbock Economic Development Alliance, on how tourists keep Lubbock going, even during the summer months.

4th annual Lubbock Live Festival slated for August 31

With nearly 7 million annual visitors, peak visitation takes place from March to November, specifically from May to August, according to Osborne. This influx of visitors generates $13 million in lodging revenue from May to August, a notable increase from $7 million 15 years ago.

Osborne explained summer brings a higher demand for hotel rooms, with LEDA recording over half a million room nights in the summer annually.

“Because we’ve added more hotels, restaurants… A lot more things to do for our people.” Osborne said.

More attractions, such as the Fibermax Center for Discovery, have also made Lubbock a more appealing destination, Osborne added.

According to Osborne, the local tourism industry not only helps keep Lubbock businesses alive, but contributes to lower taxes for residents.
