    Severe weather coverage for Lubbock, South Plains on July 7, 2024

    LUBBOCK, Texas — The National Weather Service in Lubbock said scattered thunderstorms were developing across the west-central South Plains, potentially moving into the Lubbock area by 7:00 p.m. on Sunday.

    “These storms will have the potential to bring severe weather,” the NWS said. “Severe wind gusts are the greatest threat.”

    A Severe Thunderstorm warning was issued for Lubbock County and some surrounding areas.

    • Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued through midnight for Childress, TX; Cottle, TX; Crosby, TX; Dickens, TX; Floyd, TX; Garza, TX; Hale, TX; Hall, TX; Hockley, TX; Kent, TX; King, TX; Lamb, TX; Lubbock, TX; Lynn, TX; Motley, TX; Stonewall, TX; Terry, TX
    • Severe Thunderstorm Warning through 8:15 p.m. for northeastern Lubbock County, Hockley County, southeastern Hale County, Crosby County, Lynn County and Garza County
    • Flood Advisory through 8:30 p.m. for Lubbock County and Crosby County

    NWS encourages residents to be aware of possible 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-sized hail.
