Invictus is the first of three films in the Global Views Film Series with the theme “Authoritarianism in International Cinema.” The theme builds on the humanities’ premise that stories can trigger productive intellectual and emotional responses that effectively engage with the public.

Invictus is a 2009 biographical sports film based on the 2009 John Carlin book Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game That Made a Nation , which describes events in South Africa before and during the 1995 Rugby World Cup.
