LUBBOCK, Texas — Lanisa Dehn lost her 84-year-old mother, June Linker, in May 2020 after Ehvan Reyna struck her in the 8600 block of University Avenue.

EverythingLubbock.com previously reported Reyna was traveling northbound on University Avenue in a Chevrolet Camaro at a “high rate of speed” when he struck Linker’s Toyota Camry.

More than four years later, Lanisa is collaborating with the Texas Department of Transportation on a campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of driving at excessive speeds.

“[June] was attempting to turn, and another car was going at an excessive speed and crashed into her. The other driver was driving almost 90 miles an hour, twice the speed limit,’ Lanisa said in the campaign.

Lanisa stressed in the campaign it’s “not that difficult” and to “slow down and drive the speed limit.”

“If [Reyna] had obeyed the law, my mother would still be with us today,” Lanisa said.

Linker’s remaining family filed a lawsuit in September 2020 against Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages. The lawsuit said Coca-Cola was “vicariously liable” for Reyna’s actions, as he was working for the company when the crash occurred.

Reyna was arrested and eventually pleaded guilty to manslaughter. He pleaded guilty in May 2021 and was given over 100 days of shock jail time and ten years probation.
