The City of Lubbock is asking individuals to avoid the area near 50th Street and Quaker Avenue due to a suspected gas leak.

According to the city, Atmos Energy was investigating a possible gas leak at Quaker Avenue between 47th and 48th Streets around 10 a.m. Friday morning.

As of 3 p.m., Atmos confirmed a leak and is working on repairing having to shut down all lanes of traffic in the area. Drivers are asked to seek alternate routes at this time.
