    40-year-old man dies in motorcycle crash in south Lubbock

    A man is dead after his motorcycle collided with an SUV Sunday night in south Lubbock.

    According to Lubbock police, Juan Rios, Jr., 40, was driving a motorcycle east on 82nd Street near the intersection with Freemont Avenue around 9:20 p.m. Sunday when a westbound SUV, driven by 31-year-old Shelby Pettyjohn, turned south onto Freemont. The motorcycle and SUV collided in the intersection, police said.

    Rios was taken in an ambulance to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported.

    The Lubbock Police Department's Major Crash Unit is investigating the collision. Police are asking anyone who was in the vicinity at the time of the crash to call Detective Robert McPherson at 806-775-2762 to provide additional information that could aid the investigation.
