LUBBOCK, Texas — Students in the Lubbock-area will soon return back to school and parents will have the opportunity to save money on supplies and essential items during the sales tax holiday. During the tax-free weekend, parents and students can head to stores to find some back-to- school deals.

EverythingLubbock.com created a guide of what you need to know about the tax-free holiday.

When do South Plains campuses go back to school?

    When is tax free weekend?

This year, Texas’ tax-free weekend will  be from Friday, August 9 through midnight on Sunday, August 11.

The sales tax holiday exempts only qualifying items purchased during tax-free weekend. Items purchased before or after the holiday will not qualify for tax exemption.

What items qualify for tax exemption?

Purchases for most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks are tax-free as long as it is under $100. If the item is more than $100, the tax-exemption rule does not apply. This applies to extra charges such as delivery charges added to the price of the product.

You can find the list of qualifying items that will be tax free during the Texas holiday here.
