    Lucerne Valley wildfire explodes to 700 acres

    Flames ignited in Lucerne Valley and steadily grew to blacken 700 acres of brush on Saturday, officials said.

    The blaze, dubbed the Lucerne Fire, was first reported at 3:05 p.m. in the area of Highway 18 and High Road, according to San Bernardino County Fire Protection District logs and radio traffic.

    It had exploded to more than 700 acres as of 9:30 p.m., according to CAL FIRE. No containment was reported.

    Firefighting aircraft were summoned to join firefighters on the ground in the their efforts to control the blaze.

    There were no reports of any injuries, structure damage or evacuation orders.

    The cause of the fire was under investigation.
