    Firefighters get upper hand on Lucerne Valley brush fire

    Firefighters had a massive wildfire in Lucerne Valley 90% contained on Sunday afternoon, officials said.

    The blaze, dubbed the Lucerne Fire, was first reported at 3:05 p.m. in the area of Highway 18 and High Road, according to San Bernardino County Fire Protection District logs and radio traffic.

    Officials initially reported it had exploded to more than 800 acres by Sunday morning, but the estimate was reduced to 419 acres after aerial mapping, according to CAL FIRE.

    Firefighters had built containment lines around 90% of the flames, CAL FIRE officials said.

    Water-dropping aircraft were summoned to join firefighters on the ground in the their efforts to control the blaze.

    Federal Bureau of Land Management firefighters worked alongside their San Bernardino County counterparts to control the brush fire.

    There were no reports of any injuries, structure damage or evacuation orders.

    The cause of the fire was under investigation.
