Fire destroys house, spreads to brush in Lucerne Valley

A fire destroyed a home and spread to nearby brush in Lucerne Valley on Thursday morning, officials said.

The fire was first reported about 10:45 a.m. in the area of Amber Road and Butte Street, according to San Bernardino County Fire Protection District logs.

Firefighters encountered a single-story home "well-involved" with flames and downed power lines as the fire spready slowly to about an acre in size, posing a threat to other nearby structures, fire officials said.

CAL FIRE firefighters joined in the effort and managed to keep the brush fire contained to about an acre-and-half, San Bernardino County fire officials announced in a statement via social media.

The home was a complete loss, "burned to the ground," the statement said.

Authorities summoned the Red Cross to help the residents of the home find a temporary place to stay.

The cause of the fire was not available.
