    Lufkin couple to join backing choir at Carnegie Hall performance

    LUFKIN, Texas ( KETK ) – A Lufkin woman, who has been with Angelina College for nearly 40 years, and her husband were invited to perform at New York’s Carnegie Hall for a second time.

    According to a release, Beckie Compton, Angelina College’s Chairperson of the School of Visual and Performing Arts, and her husband Bryan will be part of 275 backing choir vocalists to perform with Lauren Daigle on June 29.

    The Compton’s first invitation to perform at the concert venue came in 2022 and now they’ll be returning to join six-time nominated and two-time Grammy winner Daigle, a release said.

    “When we got the invitation, I just told Bryan we needed to make this happen,” Beckie said to the Angelina College News Service. “This time will be completely different because Lauren Daigle is so well-known and has had such an outstanding career, especially for someone so young. Her style of music is completely different. It’s very contemporary, and you’ll hear parts of her influences all through her music. There’s a little Cajun in there, a little jazz in there.”

    Beckie has taught music and choir as well as assembled musicians for performances at the college campus. a release said.
