The Son in the Sky

On April 8, a total solar eclipse moved across North America, passing over Mexico, the United States and Canada. A total solar eclipse happens when the moon passes between the sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the sun. During this incredible phenomenon, the sun darkens as if it were dawn or dusk.

This year’s solar eclipse was an incredible sight to behold as totality was visible from six Mexican states, 15 American states and six Canadian provinces. Unfortunately, if you missed this year’s eclipse, you’ll have to wait a few decades until you can experience something similar. Scientists predict the next total eclipse of a similar width won’t happen again until Aug. 12, 2045.

The Bible speaks of another glorious day featuring the Son in the sky. In contrast to the solar eclipse, though, this day won’t hide the Son. When this day arrives, the Son will be displayed “in his glory” (Matthew 25:31). Unlike the solar eclipse, this special day cannot be predicted by scientists because “concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only” (Matthew 24:36).

Additionally, this incredible day won’t be missed by anyone since it will happen “with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God” (1 Thessalonians 4:16). On this day, the Son of God will peel back the sky, come in the clouds with his holy angels, resurrect the dead, change the living, judge all of humanity, condemn the lost, and bring the saved home to heaven.

This will be the last great day, the greatest of them all. Are you ready to see the Son in the sky?
