Cornett, Claybrook tagged for greatness

Crenshaw County students were recognized recently, receiving scholarship awards to help with the cost of higher education.

Ansley Brunson of Brantley, along with Wyatt Cornett and Turner Claybrook of Luverne, were awarded the Tagged for Greatness Scholarship at the Alabama Cattlemen’s Foundation Scholarship Banquet held Friday, May 3 in Wetumpka. The awards were presented by Alabama Cattlemen’s Association president, Dr. Terry Slaten of Cullman County.

Brunson will graduate from Brantley High School in May and attend Troy University to pursue a degree in Nursing.

is the son of Amy Hilburn of Luverne.

Cornett is the son of Phillip and Stephanie Cornett of Luverne. He will graduate from Luverne High School and attend Troy University to pursue a degree in Geomatics Sciences.

Claybrook  is the son of Lance and Sheri Claybrook of Luverne. He will also graduate from Luverne High School and attend Troy University to pursue a degree in Geomatics Sciences.

Drake Mills was awarded the Trade School Scholarship. He is the son of Amy Hilburn of Luverne. He attends Lurleen B. Wallace Community College where he is pursuing a degree in engineering.

The students were among 113 scholarship recipients awarded over $110,250 in scholarships by the Alabama Cattlemen’s Foundation (ACF). The ACF serves to engage in educational and scientific activities to improve the beef cattle industry in Alabama and educate youth on the importance of beef cattle in Alabama. It provides the opportunity to make tax deductible donations for the educational work of the foundation and is largely funded by the sale of the “Cowboy Tag” vanity license plate.

Throughout the year, the ACF supports numerous organizations and events which help to educate and train future generations of the livestock industry. The ACF has awarded scholarship money each year to Alabama youth with more than $1.2 million being awarded to date.
