Crenshaw Community Hospital will be having an open house on May 30, at 2 p.m. to highlight new radiology equipment provided to the facility by the City of Luverne and Crenshaw County. City and \county leaders, as well as hospital leadership will be on site to discuss how this new equipment will support the mission of Crenshaw Community Hospital.

With a number of Rural Health Care facilities at risk of closure in Alabama, it is difficult to maintain services and equipment. Crenshaw Community Hospital was facing a struggle with the outdated radiology equipment.

“The current x-ray equipment had recently failed leaving us to function on back up equipment,” said CEO David Hughes. “Our CT machine was reaching the end of life, as well. Without revenues to replace them we would be facing a difficult decision.”

The City of Luverne and Crenshaw County Commission realized the citizens of Luverne and Crenshaw County needed a local healthcare facility that could provide the most up to date services. Working together with the City and County leadership, provided funding for a 128 slice GE CT scanner, digital X-ray and fluoroscopy equipment, and a new contrast injector.

With this equipment in place Crenshaw Community Hospital can now offer a consistently higher level of radiology services.

“We can now do testing that patients were having to travel outside the area to get. We are currently working with our radiology group to expand those services even more so the citizens of Crenshaw County can get this care at their hometown facility” Hughes said. “We appreciate the City of Luverne leadership, and the County Commission for making this happen.”

Crenshaw Community Hospital is licensed for 65 beds and provides medical, surgical, behavioral health and emergency services, as well as having a Rural Health Clinic. The hospital provides an estimated $30.6 million economic impact to the area.
