You may have a new place to vote in November in Luz. Co.
There could be a change to where you vote in Luzerne County this upcoming election. It has to do with creating greater safety amid a heated political climate. County officials are looking into getting rid of polling places inside schools, calling it a necessity. More than a handful of voting precincts were at schools in both the 2023 general election and 2024 primary. Luzerne County Manager Romilda Crocamo says there are preparations happening already at many levels to ensure greater safety and accommodate the changes. With a large voter turnout anticipated on November 5, election officials want to make sure that day is safe and organized.
Luzerne County man sentencing for killing his father
A Luzerne County man was sentenced to up to 30 years in prison Tuesday after pleading no contest to homicide charges. 32 year old Kevin Novak faced the prospect of life behind bars if convicted at trial in the slaying of his father, 70-year-old Richard Novak, who was gunned down at their home in Nanticoke in 2022. Novak did not address the court prior to the Judge sentencing him to 12-30 years in state prison for the crime.
