    Construction projects continue week of July 22

    The following is a round-up of current PennDOT road work and construction projects in northcentral Pa.:

    Lycoming County

    A two-year roadway project continues along Interstate 180 eastbound and westbound in Montoursville Borough, and Loyalsock, Fairfield, and Muncy townships.

    On Monday, July 22, through Friday, July 26, between the hours of 6 a.m. and 2 p.m., the contractor will be installing reflective traffic control markings on I-180 westbound between the Fairfield Road (Exit 20) interchange and the Loyalsock Creek (Broad Street entrance ramp). Drivers can expect the right (driving) lane to be restricted where work is being performed. Additional work includes placing reflective markings at the following interchanges, Fairfield Road, Route 87, and Interstate 180 westbound entrance ramp from Broad Street (Route 2014). Drivers can expect lane shifts and shoulder closures where work is being performed.

    Glenn O. Hawbaker is the prime contractor for this $11.4 million highway resurfacing project. Work in 2023 included mill and resurface of over 13 miles of roadway including entrance and exit ramps at Route 87 and the Fairfield Road interchanges, pavement marking, and epoxy of bridges throughout the work zone. Work in 2024 includes new lighting, guide rail upgrades, and signage. Work on this project is expected to be completed in the summer of 2024.

    Resurfacing Routes 44 and 3003

    A roadway and bridge replacement project continues on Main Street (Route 44) and Main Street/River Road (Route 3003) in both directions in Jersey Shore Borough and Porter, Piatt, and Nippenose townships.

    The week of Monday, July 22, the contractor will begin setting the precast concrete sections for the box culvert replacement spanning Lawshe Run. Work will take place during daylight hours.

    Long-Term Closure

    Route 44 (North Main Street) is closed in both directions at the Jersey Shore Borough / Piatt Township line, while the contractor replaces the bridge that carries North Main Street over Lawshe Run.A detour using Route 220, Route 3027 (Thomas Street), and Allegheny Street, will be in place for the duration of the bridge replacement. The detour is anticipated to be in place until Friday, September 20, weather permitting.

    HRI is the prime contractor for this $4.9 million roadway resurfacing project. Work on this project includes mill and resurface of approximately one mile of roadway on Routes 44 and 3003, including a portion of the on and off ramps of Route 220 at Main Street, guide rail upgrades, drainage upgrades, sewer line relocation, ADA curb ramps, and pavement markings. Additional work on this project includes bridge replacement, bridge deck repairs, neoprene strip seal glad replacement and epoxy overlay. These bridges span over Lawshe Run, Route 220, and the Susquehanna River. Work on this project is expected to be completed in late October.

    Bradford County

    A pipe replacement project will close a portion of Leisure Lake Road (Route 1012) during daytime hours in Stevens Township.

    Starting on Monday, July 22, through Friday, August 2, Leisure Lake Road will be closed daily between Route 706 and Forker Road (T-644), while a PennDOT maintenance crew replaces deteriorating pipes.

    A detour using Route 706 and Herrickville Road (Route 1017) will be in place while work is being performed. Work will be performed during daylight hours.

    Tioga County

    A two-year roadway improvement project continues on Water Street (Route 414), Blockhouse Road (Route 2005), and Williamson Road (Route 2007) in Liberty Borough and Liberty Township.

    The week of Monday, July 22, the contractor will be performing drainage work on Williamson Trail Road (Route 2007) between Blockhouse Road and Mase Road (T-800). Drivers can expect single lane conditions with flagging.

    Work continues on the installation of the 84-inch pipe across Route 414 between Water Street and Shaffer Hill Road.

    Long-Term Closure

    Water Street is closed in both directions between Shaffer Hill Road and just south of Bloss Mountain Road.

    A detour using Route 15 and Bloss Mountain Road is in place.

    Glenn O. Hawbaker is the prime contractor for this two-year $6.2 million roadway improvement project. Work on this project includes drainage work on Route 414 (High Street/Water Street) and Blockhouse Road, roadway reconstruction, retaining wall, sidewalks, curbing, and resurfacing of 1.7 miles of Williamson Road. Work is expected to be complete in November of 2025, weather permitting. Motorists can expect a winter shut down between construction seasons.

    Construction in Mansfield

    A two-year construction project continues on Route 6 and Main Street (Route 2005).

    The week of Monday, July 22, the contractor will continue rehabilitation work on the bridge that carries Route 6 over the Tioga River. Work includes repair of the sub-structure, deck repairs, and epoxy overlay.

    Long-Term Detour

    Route 6 will remain closed to westbound traffic at the intersection of Main Street.

    Route 6 westbound traffic will use South Main Street and Route 15.Route 6 eastbound traffic will be maintained through the work zone.

    Business District

    Utility relocation and drainage improvements will continue this week on Route 6 between North Academy Street and Railroad Street and on Main Street between East Main Street and East Elmira Street (Route 1002).

    The contractor will also continue work on the ADA ramps throughout the business district. Work will be performed between the hours of 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. There will be minimal impact to traffic while work is being performed at these locations.

    Glenn O. Hawbaker is the prime contractor for this $7.2 million construction project of Route 6 and Main Street. Work on this project includes milling and resurfacing 0.5 miles of Route 6 between the Tioga River and Swan Street in Mansfield Borough and 3.8 miles of Main Street between Decker Street in Richmond Township and East Main Street in Mansfield Borough. Additional work includes drainage improvements, utility relocations, construction of ADA ramps, and rehabilitation and deck preservation of the bridge that carries Route 6 over the Tioga River in Mansfield Borough. Work on this project is anticipated to be completed in 2025 and includes a winter shut down.

    Potter County

    One lane of a bridge along Route 6 is closed as PennDOT resumes construction. The bridge spans Trout Brook approximately one mile east of Roulette. There are activated temporary traffic signals.

    While work is ongoing, the temporary signals will enforce an alternating traffic pattern where drivers take turns crossing the bridge via the open lane. PennDOT anticipates the contractor completing the work by early November.

    Structural repairs at this bridge are part of a Route 6 improvement project that started during the 2023 construction season. Work completed last year included paving, drainage improvements, guide rail installation, two structure rehabilitations, pavement marking, and miscellaneous construction. Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. of State College is the contractor on this $7.6 million project.

    Centre County

    Work continues on South Atherton Street (Route 3014) for a project that stretches from Curtin Road to just north of Westerly Parkway in State College. Drivers traveling through the work zone can expect the following Monday, July 22, through Friday, Friday 26:

    Monday, July 22, through Wednesday, July 24, crews will work within the long-term traffic control pattern between Calder Way and White Course Drive to pour new concrete curbing, sidewalks, and ADA-compliant ramps. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours and traffic will be reduced to a single lane while work occurs.

    On Thursday, July 25, the contractor will close the right lane heading eastbound toward Boalsburg between the intersections of Park and College avenues. During non-working hours, the contractor will maintain two open lanes between Park and Railroad avenues, with the right lane remaining closed between Railroad and College avenues. Westbound traffic heading toward North Atherton Street will not be impacted by this change in traffic pattern, with the exception of the center turning lane being closed to westbound traffic.

    PennDOT posts updates and detour information on the Atherton Street project page weekly and encourages drivers to visit the page at www.penndot.pa.gov/AthertonStreet .

    Overall work on the project includes roadway reconstruction, drainage improvements that include pipes and inlets, water and sewer lines, concrete curbing, sidewalks and detectable warning surfaces, pavement markings, traffic signals and supports, and miscellaneous items. HRI, Inc. of State College is the contractor on this $30.7 million project. PennDOT anticipates the contractor completing the project in the fall of 2024.

    Bridge improvement Route 504 in Boggs Township

    A bridge improvement project on Route 504 in Boggs Township will begin Tuesday, July 23. This project will improve safety and ride quality for motorists by improving the overall condition rating of the structure.

    The bridge spans Wallace Run between Unionville and Milesburg on Route 504 (Alternate Route 220) near Snow Shoe Mountain Road.

    Temporary traffic signals will be in place, controlling an alternating single-lane traffic pattern while this work is completed. Work will include concrete beam repairs, concrete deck repairs, paving, placement of pavement markings, and related construction.

    H&P Construction Inc. of Kulpmont is the contractor on this $1.4 million project. Work is expected to be completed in late September 2024.

    Union County

    A bridge replacement project continues on Route 2003 (Dreisbach Church Road) in Buffalo Township.

    Starting on Wednesday, July 24, the contractor will be delivering and setting the box culvert on Dreisbach Church Road.

    Traffic Impacts

    Drivers traveling on Route 45 can expect slow or stopped traffic in both directions between Young Road and Johnson Mill Road (Route 1001), while the trucks deliver the sections of the box culvert. Traffic will be controlled by flagging.

    Dreisbach Church Road remains closed between Route 45 and Pheasant Ridge Road.​

    A detour using Route 45, Route 104, Route 304, and Route 3004 (Red Ridge Road), will be in place for the duration of the project. The project is anticipated to be completed by Friday, August 2, weather permitting.

    Work on this project includes removal of the existing metal pipe culvert bridge spanning Beaver Run. Additional work includes the installation of a new precast concrete box culvert, restoring asphalt roadway section, and guide rail installation.

    Lane restrictions on Route 192

    Lane restrictions will be in place this week on Route 192 in East Buffalo Township for a microsurfacing project.

    On Monday, July 22, and Tuesday, July 23, the contractor, Suite-Kote, will be applying a final microsurfacing layer to Route 192 between Route 15 and Fairground Road. Drivers can expect single lane conditions with flagging where work is being performed. Work will be performed during daylight hours, weather permitting.

    Northumberland County

    A railroad crossing project begins this week on Market Street (Route 4005) in Snydertown Borough.

    Market Street will be closed between Camp Road and Furman Road, while the contractor, CTW, installs a custom tub-style rail / highway crossing across the road.

    A detour using Route 61, Shamrock Road (Route 2010), and Snydertown Road (Route 4012) will be in place for the duration of the project. The project is anticipated to be completed on Friday, July 26.

    This work is a cooperative effort between the Shamokin Valley Rail Road and PennDOT.

    Montour/Columbia counties

    A resurfacing project continues on Route 11 in the Town of Bloomsburg and Route 11 Montour Township, Columbia County.

    Starting on Sunday, July 21, the contractor began a microsurfacing application on Route 11 (East Street / Main Street / Montour Boulevard / Northumberland Highway) from the Northumberland/Montour County line in Point Township to the west line of the Borough of Danville, and from the Montour/Columbia County line to Route 487 in the Town of Bloomsburg. Drivers can expect single lane conditions with flagging where work is being performed. Work will be performed Sundays through Fridays between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

    Vestal Asphalt, Inc., is the prime contractor for this $1.9 million resurfacing project on Route 11 between East Street in the Town of Bloomsburg and the Montour County line in Montour Township and Poplar Street in the Town of Bloomsburg, and from the Northumberland/Montour County line in Point Township for two miles to the west of the Borough of Danville. Work on this project includes removal of the pavement markings, applying two microsurface layers, and application of line painting. Work on this project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2024.

    Drivers should slow down and drive with caution through work zones. All work is weather dependent.
