Lycoming County pre-release center escapee quickly back in custody
On the afternoon of May 30, Derrick Franklin Day, an inmate at the Lycoming County Prison pre-release center on County Farm Road in Loyalsock Township, bolted out a basement door, activating an alarm that alerted security officers, according to an affidavit filed by a county detective. Day, 34, who just began serving a 30-day to six-month prison term two days earlier, ran to the back of the nearby Lysock View complex and tried desperately to get inside through a locked door, but was unsuccessful, investigators said. As a surveillance camera recorded Day’s alleged actions, the escapee then walked away from the door, but he was soon captured by a security officer from the pre-release center. Day, of 36 Turkey Bottom Road, Muncy, was taken by a sheriff deputy to the Lycoming County Prison and automatically incarcerated. He has since waived his preliminary hearing before Whiteman on a felony charge of escape. Day told the county detective that he fled from the pre-release center because he feared for his safety, the affidavit stated. The prison sentence he received followed a guilty plea to a DUI offense, the court document stated.
