'Go the other way': Police warn Portlanders to steer clear of big street takeover event this weekend
PORTLAND, Ore. — Police across the Portland metro area are preparing for a large-scale street takeover that they believe has been planned for this weekend. The illegal event, which bills itself as an annual competition called the "West Coast Invitational," drew participants from across Oregon, Washington, California and Idaho to Portland last summer and may have involved as many as 1,000 drivers and spectators, according to the Portland Police Bureau (PPB).

Pet tortoise found after 2 days on the run, crossing interstate in Portland
PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - A runaway tortoise named Bowser was returned home on Thursday after police officers found him along Interstate 205 in southeast Portland. At around 10 a.m., officers on ATVs were checking on houseless people living along a path on the west side of the freeway, giving people information about the heat wave and handing out bottles of water, according to PPB.
Reflection Plaza tower to get makeover
The campanile tower in downtown Washougal’s Reflection Plaza will receive a local history-themed makeover. The Washougal Arts and Culture Alliance (WACA) and the city of Washougal arts commission has selected Vancouver-based artist Sharon Agnor’s Two Rivers Heritage Sculpture artwork, which will be installed onto the campanile in September 2025.
