Casper, WY July 22nd, 2024 — Three Goshen County residents were recognized for their years of dedication to youth sports at the Wyoming Coaches Association/Wyoming Sports Officials Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Casper last week. Kathy Hamer-Smith was inducted into the Wyoming Sports Officials Association Hall of Fame, and Trisha Bates and Rick Cotant were inducted by the Wyoming Coaches Association.

UW Planetarium Renovations Scheduled Aug. 5-14
The University of Wyoming Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium will undergo renovations and technical upgrades early next month. The planetarium will be closed Aug. 5-14 so that the facility’s two bulb-based projectors can be replaced with new laser projectors. In fall 2023, the planetarium began the procurement process to replace its projectors with a brand-new system. The successful search was completed in May.
Ashley Furniture store to open in Casper’s Eastridge Mall in August
CASPER, Wyo. — A vacant storefront once occupied by Bed Bath & Beyond will be home to a new Ashley Furniture store in Casper’s Eastridge Mall. The space has been empty since Bed Bath & Beyond closed in early 2023 shortly before the company was liquidated. A new major retailer opening in the Eastridge Mall is a bit of good news for the property after years of losing tenants due to changing trends and shopping habits that have affected indoor malls and retailers across the country.
Wildfire likely caused by lighting extinguished on Casper Mountain on Sunday
CASPER, Wyo. — A small wildfire located in the same area as the 2012 Sheep Herder Fire was extinguished over the weekend. According to a social media post from the Casper Mountain Fire District, the fire was likely caused by a lighting strike that had smoldered for a couple of days before it actively started to burn.

City facilities to modify schedules for Cheyenne Day
CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Several city facilities and offices will have modified schedules for Cheyenne Day on Wednesday, July 24. City offices will be closed Wednesday, July 24. Water Main Repairs begin today in Lander
The City of Lander Water Department and Patrick Construction, Inc., are starting a water main replacement project on the 100 block of South 6th Street today due to the damage caused by freezing last winter. Residents in the area should expect a water outage for about a day early in the week while the repair is being made. Torrington hosts the 2024 Wyoming American Legion Baseball Class ‘B’ State Championship Tournament from July 25-29. These teams are either the second or third tier in programs around the state. The players are 17 years old and younger. Eight teams are part of a double-elimination bracket. All games are seven innings in length. The tournament games are at Bullock Field located at the Torrington Sports Complex.
