With Your Voice, a new public art project in Gowanus, educates locals on neighborhood investments
Brooklyn-based nonprofit Van Alen Institute has launched a new participatory public artwork in Gowanus, Brooklyn. With Your Voice is helmed by artists Juanli Carrión, an assistant professor of creative community development at Parson; and Rodolfo Kusulas, transdisciplinary creative and cofounder of calligraphy company KOUS. The project is aimed at educating Gowanus locals about the 56 Points of Agreement: a set of commitments made by the City of New York to the community as part of the Gowanus Neighborhood Rezoning.

Last year, Saintrome was severely injured after being hit by a car, damaging his head and leaving him in and out of consciousness. Angela Lucas, founder of Hangout One Happy Place, previously held an event accumulating roughly $1,400 in April of that year. Lucas was Saintrome’s elementary school teacher making her personally connected to the family, driving this operation. On Saturday, a suggested donation of $10 would go to Saintrome's family.

An FBI raid of KSK Construction tied to NYC Mayor Eric Adams uncovered an illegal residential project in the East Village, Gothamist reported. KSK failed to obtain permits for the 12-story project at 280 East Houston St. to begin the above-ground work on the project. The city’s buildings department told Gothamist it did not notice the oversight until the publication inquired about it last month. By then, the 157-unit project already had five stories built.
