Carolina Mudcats take series over Lynchburg

The Carolina Mudcats played a six-game series against the Lynchburg Hillcats from June 25-26.

The series ended in a 3-3 tie, a common trend for the 2024 Mudcats.

Game one

Cooper Pratt kicked off the scoring for the Mudcats with a two-RBI grounder to center field.

On the following at-bat, Daniel Guilarte hit an RBI double to send home Yophery Rodriguez.

Jose Acosta hit a sacrifice grounder to follow up the run, bringing home Cooper Pratt and moving Guilarte into scoring position.

On the next at-bat, David García capped off the Mudcats’ scoring with their third straight fourth consecutive coring at-bat, hitting a single to left field to score Guilarte.

The Mudcats held on to this lead to take the first game of the series 5-3.

Game two

The Hillcats responded with a win in the second game of the series, taking down the Mudcats 6-3.

Blayberg Diaz played the most significant role at the plate for the Mudcats, getting two hits for a run and an RBI.

Game three

The Mudcats put up more of a fight in the following game but still came up short, falling 5-4.

The Mudcats led 4-3 after five innings, but the Hillcats’ two in the following frame was enough for the Hillcats to grab the 5-4 win.

Game four

The Mudcats picked the 5-2 win following their back-to-back losses, with all five runs coming in the sixth and seventh after falling behind 2-0.

Pratt led the way at the plate with a run and an RBI.

Game five

The Mudcats took a 5-0 lead after five innings, with all runs coming from the third to fifth innings, and despite the Hillcats scoring three in the top of the sixth, the Mudcats held on to the lead.

Pratt, Guilarte and Yhoswar Garcia were all responsible for two runs.

The Mudcats secured their second straight win 5-3.

Game six

The final game of the series kicked off hot, with five runs being scored between the two teams in the first two innings.

The Hillcats led 3-2 after two and added another run in the sixth. The Mudcats could not manage a single run after inning two, losing the game 4-2.

The Mudcats next face the Down East Wood Ducks in a six-game series from Jul 1-6.
