Jamestown Man Charged in Baker Street Drug Raid
A Jamestown man faces drug-related charges after a recent traffic stop and search warrant in the city as part of an investigation into narcotics activity. Narcotics investigators from the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office, Dunkirk Police Department and Jamestown Police Department executed the warrant at 340 Baker Street last Wednesday at about 9:30 AM, moments after Jamestown Police stopped 48-year-old Dwight Leeper a short distance from his residence. The search resulted in the seizure of 26.35 grams of cocaine, plus scales and packaging material for the sale and distribution of narcotics. Leeper was charged with two counts of 3rd-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and one count of 2nd-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia. He was arraigned on the charges in Jamestown City Court.
SUNY Fredonia Welcomes Largest Incoming Class in Three Years
The new academic year is underway at SUNY Fredonia, and the university says the student body includes the largest number of new incoming students to campus in the past three years. The new students, which consist of 1,034 first-year, transfer and new graduate students, have joined the Fredonia community as classes began on Monday. Officials add that enrollment numbers for this fall include a 10% rise in first-year student enrollment compared to last year, while graduate enrollment has surged by an impressive 34% year-over-year. Applications increased by 7% for first-year students and 13% for graduate students. Fredonia's acceptance rate dropped by 2%, showing academic standards continue to remain strong at the university.
