LYNN HAVEN, Fla. ( WMBB ) — The Mosley High School softball team hosted its first youth softball camp in the Katie Lopes coaching era this week.

The three-day camp started on Monday and wrapped up Thursday night, taking a break on Wednesday night.

Around 30 young athletes, ages 6-12 participated in this year’s camp. Each camper was given a special shirt that will grant them free admission to a Mosley softball game next spring.

The goal of the camp was to give back to the Lynn Haven community and build up the softball program’s future.

“Hopefully they’ll be wearing the Mosley jersey, but it’s awesome,” Mosley head softball coach Katie Lopes said. “It’s great to see them. We’ve had a little rough spot with the hurricane and COVID, so it’s on the uphill right now, and I’m really happy that they’re all here.”

The camp has a highly anticipated ending with “water day.” The girls worked to improve their sliding skills on a Slip N’ Slide and worked on catching and throwing with a water balloon contest.
