New NSF-Funded Center Established to Lead Geologic CO2 Storage Innovation
Center will lead to new technologies and workforce development. A team from the USC Viterbi School of Engineering and Penn State College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, led by Behnam Jafarpour, professor of chemical engineering and material science at USC, has received funding from the National Science Foundation to establish a center for CO2 Storage Modeling, Analytics and Risk Reduction Technologies (CO2-SMART). CO2-SMART will be dedicated to innovation in geologic sequestration of carbon dioxide as a technology to enable industrial decarbonization at scale. The team will lead the charge in advancing safe and cost-effective geologic CO2 storage science and technologies by establishing a cooperative research program among university partners, government, industry, national labs and foundations.

The Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI) and ChargerHelp! are proud to announce the launch of the nation’s first multi-manufacturer EV charger reliability training hub. Located in South Los Angeles, the facility provides a dedicated space for LACI and ChargerHelp! with dozens of chargers and equipment dedicated for EVSE charger reliability training. Conductors Holly Hyun Choe, Dayner Tafur-Díaz, Luis Castillo-Briceño, and Molly Turner have been selected for the fellowship program. Founded in 2009 by the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Music Director Gustavo Dudamel, the Dudamel Fellowship Program provides the selected conductors with opportunities to work alongside Dudamel and the orchestra, as well as with visiting artists and conductors, to hone their conducting skills through both observation and application.

The USC Trojans face the LSU Tigers on Sept. 1 in Las Vegas, in a massive Week 1 college football showdown. One of the central tension points entering this game is that USC and LSU face tons of uncertainties on their rosters. USC has an unproven quarterback, Miller Moss, going against an unproven LSU secondary which struggled last year. Javien Toviano was part of that secondary.
