(SPRINGFIELD) Governor J.B. Pritzker signed 68 more bills into law this past Friday. One of the four measures that take effect January 1st, 2025, is House Bill 5457 prevents professional license denial or disciplinary action against someone based solely on immigration status or an immigration violation. House Bill 5465 allows human trafficking victims, who were children at the time of the crime, to have their juvenile records expunged or sealed of any criminal acts they were forced to take part in while being abused. House Bill 5370 expands the state’s “Move Over Law” requiring drivers to reduce their speed in & around emergency crash scenes. House Bill 5238 requires newly built manufactured homes to have weather radios installed, plus also promotes regular maintenance of safety devices in mobile home communities. Babies R Us will open 11 Illinois stores, including one in Springfield
Kohl’s department store in Springfield will be one of the retail chain's 11 locations in Illinois to add a Babies 'R' Us franchise. Kohl's recently announced that the first Babies 'R' Us shops will open next month and will continue opening through the fall. The 11 Illinois store openings are part of a campaign to add Babies 'R' Us franchises to 200 Kohl’s locations nationwide.

The Deaconess Foundation aims to improve the health of the community and people of eastern Missouri and southern Illinois. The foundation invites applications for its Seeding the Future Grants, which support efforts that accelerate change in conditions and systems transformation through coalition and base building, grassroots advocacy, civic engagement, community organizing, and public policy development/change. Funding will be awarded to bolster organizational and civic infrastructure expansion, advance of public policies, and/or support efforts impacting systems transformation through an intergenerational approach for the improved health and wellness of people in eastern Missouri and southern Illinois. The grant is designed to cultivate a partnership pipeline for the Movement Transformation Cohort.

Peotone Police Blotter: July 11-18
On July 11, at 9 p.m., Peotone Police were requested to meet with a complainant standing by at the police department in reference to a harassment complaint. The officer responded and met with the complainant, who advised they were being harassed via email and other electronic accounts by an ex. After hearing the complainant’s concerns, the officer supplied the complainant information on how to obtain an order of protection if they chose to do so.
