UPDATE: Train Derailment Near Alvord
Excessive rainfall may be the cause of a train derailment near Alvord today. Not many details have been released, but according to our sister station, KIWA, Lyon County Emergency Management Director Arden Kopishke confirms a Burlington Northern SanteFe train, hauling dry fertilizer has derailed, and some of the rail hopper cars are overturned in water. Kopishke says two roads are closed in that area, Elmwood Avenue (K30), and 220th Street, one mile south of Alvord.
