Pretrial and arraignment next step in Emporia drug distribution case
A pretrial hearing is coming next month in an Emporia drug distribution case. Maelynn Martinez is charged with single counts of drug distribution and paraphernalia possession after an alleged incident near Emporia in mid-May. Lyon County deputies say they stopped a car on Interstate 35 near the Road U junction after it didn’t yield to a stationary emergency vehicle. Deputies say the resulting traffic stop led to over 400 grams of marijuana, nearly 120 THC vape cartridges, assorted edible THC products and drug paraphernalia allegedly in the vehicle.

Two Mississippi travelers hospitalized after rollover on I-35
An overnight rollover on Interstate 35 sent two people to the hospital Friday. According to Lyon County Sheriff's Office Deputy Brandon Early, authorities reported to mile marker 138 of the interstate — about 13 miles east of town — at 2:02 a.m. Early said 65-year-old Beatrice Blackman of Blytheville, Mississippi, fell asleep at the wheel while driving southbound in a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The vehicle veered into the center median and struck a culvert, causing it to overturn multiple times.
Rollover wreck near Emporia hurts pair of Mississippi residents
Two Mississippi residents were hurt after a wreck near Emporia early Friday morning. Lyon County Deputy Brandon Early says the wreck happened just after 2 am on Interstate 35 near the Road U junction. Early says 65-year-old Beatrice Blackman of Blytheville was driving a car southbound and fell asleep at the wheel. Blackman went into the center median and hit a culvert, rolling the car “numerous times.”
