Crime and Accidents for July 17
TRACY — A domestic incident was reported at 9:54 p.m. Sunday on the 300 block of Rowland Street, Tracy Police said. No further information was available. MARSHALL — A male was arrested for DWI – refusal to test and an open bottle violation at 7:49 p.m. Sunday on the 1400 block of East College Drive, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office said. In the same incident, a report was sent to the county attorney’s office for consideration of charges of open bottle and carrying a pistol while under the influence against a second male, the Sheriff’s Office said.

MARSHALL — Mary Beth Sinclair said she’s always liked books. But children were the real reason she decided to become a librarian instead of a teacher. “You see different kids every day,” Sinclair said. “At the school library or in school, you see the same kids every day for nine months. So, I liked the variety.”

LYND — A report is pending on an incident at 10:50 p.m. Wednesday on Redwood Court, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office said. TRACY — A report is pending on an order for protection violation at 9:13 p.m. Wednesday on the 2700 block of Lyon County Road 2, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office said.

According to John Radzilowski in his book, “Prairie Town: A History of Marshall, Minnesota 1872-1997,” “The second most talked about holiday after Christmas, at least in the early days, was the Fourth of July.” The communities in Lyon County pulled out all the stops to attract as many people as possible for Fourth of July festivities. In the early days, it was often a point of pride for the towns to have the best attended celebrations in the area.
