Washoe Lake State Park is under a HAB (harmful algae boom) watch due to the presence of what might be toxic algae. As we continue to experience these high summer heats, the bodies of water in our area are becoming primed for algae blooms. While algae often is not a concern on its own, it’s the toxic algae that can make pets, wildlife, and even humans very ill.

School districts put SB80 concussion changes into action
Nevada school districts have begun adopting policy changes regarding the management of student head injuries and concussions based on Senate Bill 80 signed into law last year. The school boards from Carson City and Lyon County school districts on June 25, during their respective board meetings, each discussed updates supporting Return to Learn recommendations from the Nevada Department of Education (NDE) and the Nevada Interscholastic Athletic Association (NIAA) to formalize plans supporting athletes who sustain head trauma during games.

National Weather Service Issues Excessive Heat Warning
The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning. The warning will be in effect from 10 a.m. Saturday until 10 a.m. Wednesday. The areas of northern Washoe County, Western Nevada Basin and Range, Pyramid Lake, Reno, Carson City, Minden, and Mineral and Southern Lyon Counties will see temperatures near 105 degrees during the day.
