Estes Park’s new mayor plays in a Grateful Dead cover band, climbs 14ers and is working to quiet the town’s turbulence
Gary Hall doesn’t mind saying he’s a pretty hot guitar player. “Music’s been in my blood since my dad woke us up to watch The Beatles on Ed Sullivan in 1964,” Hall said last week as he walked to Estes Park’s Rock Cut Brewery, where he was playing in an acoustic folk trio. “Being in a small town, I get to play a fair amount. When I was in IT, I played 110 or 120 nights per year. Now it’s more like 20 to 25 per year.”

City staffers believe that could happen in 2041.
From Rain Clouds to Musical Euphoria: A Day at Arrowood Farms
In 2019, we attended a concert at Folsom Field in Boulder. The skies darkened, it started to rain lightly, and I emailed my weather guru friend in Austin, Texas: “Hey Danny, what’s happening in the Colorado front range?” Danny sent back a Doppler radar screenshot showing very bright red and deep purple tie-dye splotches running from Denver to Fort Collins. Boulder was in the bullseye. Driving over the Shawangunk Ridge, there’s a similar feel to the Boulder Flatirons. From the top of the Gunks viewshed, I could see the weather west of the concert area, and it looked pretty ominous—no Doppler radar needed.

Boulder Art Fest: Outdoor Art Museum Masterpieces!
I admit I am overwhelmed. Overwhelmed by the level of talent that visits our Boulder Mall to hang their masterpieces for our enjoyment and hopeful purchase. IMO (in my opinion) some of the art was without question of museum quality, the artists achieving true artistic professional status. Many are in fact professional full and part-time artists. I was overwhelmed and remain tongue-tied. As a recovering lawyer, that does not happen much. Over the next couple of days I’m going to focus on one artist per blog. The creators are as interesting and delightful as their creations. My initial challenge was to decide who to spotlight for Motivational Monday. I picked Gary Chaffin.
