LYONS, Colo. (KDVR) — A Lyons family is worried and asking for help after they say structures for their animals and farm were lost in the Stone Canyon Fire.

Families affected by the Stone Canyon Fire near Lyons were steadily arriving at the Boulder County Fairgrounds on Wednesday to bring in and check on evacuated animals.

What to do if you need to evacuate because of a wildfire

Brian Cornwell was with his wife at the fairgrounds and said his home was just a few houses down from the start of the fire.

“I was focused on the other fire and then out of the corner of my eye I saw another fire on our ridge, which is Eagle Ridge Road. So I took my Rzr down and saw it was at our neighbor’s house that was just a few houses down and immediately came back and got two of the kids, two dogs and her sister and headed out,” Cornwell said.

The family was able to get their animals out, but they still suffered loss.

“We have three shelters, our animal shelters. Based on our neighbor’s web camera images, the fire boundary, we are assuming those are gone. And of course, we have small things like hay, feed, goat grain,” Cornwell said.

The family said they wanted to be sure to give a shoutout to Boulder County mountain rescue for helping them get their animals to safety. Their two dogs were taken in by the Longmont Humane Society, no questions asked.

    Colorado wildfires: How to help

The family has a GoFundMe set up to help with the rebuild once they’re allowed back to their home.

GoFundMe has also launched a centralized hub where people can find and donate to verified campaigns related to this fire and several others burning in Colorado. You can find that here .
