University of Nebraska students create human chain along Dodge Street to raise awareness of violence in Bangladesh

Capron Captures Junior Gold Title
Incoming Husker freshman bowler Karina Capron took home the U18 title at the 2024 Junior Gold Championships in Allen Park, Mich., Saturday evening. Capron, the U12 2017 Junior Gold Champion, qualified for match play in sixth after five qualifying rounds. In matches of two games total pinfall, Capron defeated Maggie Smith 427-295, Amanda Lang 394-391 and Melia Mitskavich 395-373 before facing Kaitlyn Stull in a match to decide the placements for the tv show. Capron fell to Stull 441-414 and earned the second-place spot in the finals.
Cold Air Funnel Spotted Over Norfolk Saturday Afternoon
As heavy rains poured down over Norfolk late this afternoon, a cold air funnel cloud was spotted by the public over Norfolk just after 5pm. Regional Emergency Manager Bobbi Risor says the National Weather Service was aware of the cloud. While any funnel cloud is a concern, the weather service did not deem it a threat to public safety, and no warnings were issued.

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - A sinkhole large enough to swallow a car opened up in Omaha Friday, closing off roads and reportedly putting people in danger. Sutton Community Home raises $1 million for renovations

In the player spotlight with 41 days to go is Huskers freshman defensive back Larry Tarver Jr. Tarver Jr. was a three-star prospect on most outlets but Rivals was very high on the TRU Prep Academy standout, ranking him as a four-star prospect and a top-40 cornerback nationally. The Miami native picked the Huskers over offers from FAU, FIU, Louisville, Maryland, Miami (FL), Texas A&M, and Western Michigan. As a true freshman, a redshirt season is likely for Tarver, however, this is plenty of upside in the Miami native’s game and he could be a player that develops into a key rotational piece for the Huskers long term or potentially even a starter. Two future Huskers help Team USA to runner-up finish at Honkbalweek Haarlem
Two Huskers helped Team USA to a championship game appearance in an international tournament over the week. Newcomers Robby Bolin, Luke Broderick, and Team USA lost to Team Japan in the historic Honkbalweek Haarlem title game. The NJCAA Baseball Coaches Association selected the team. Its roster was narrowed down from 120 players to its current 24-man size. Bolin was named the tournament’s best hitter. He finished a .391 batting average in the seven games with nine hits, an RBI, and six runs scored. Broderick appeared in one game for Team USA, appearing in 3.1 innings in relief. He allowed three hits and no runs while compiling six strikeouts and two walks. Huskers to host 2026 defensive back next weekend
A class of 2026 recruit has scheduled a visit to Nebraska next weekend. JJ Dunnigan is a 6-foot-2 defensive back from Manhattan High School in Manhattan, KS. Dunnigan will be in Lincoln on July 27 to meet new defensive backs coach John Butler. Butler is taking over for Evan Cooper, who resigned last week for personal reasons. The new Cornhusker coach is excited to continue his career at Nebraska. “I am excited to join Coach Rhule, this staff, and the great tradition of Nebraska Football and the Blackshirt Defense. Brave Animal Rescue hosts animal meet and greet at brewery
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - One local nonprofit combined pints and pets at an event to promote animal adoption. Brave Animal Rescue, who spays, neuters and houses foster pets in Lincoln, hosted the meet and greet at White Elm Brewery, allowing attendees to enjoy a drink while meeting a new furry friend.
North Platte Pow Wow: Pageantry, dance, honoring the Spirit
The colorful North Platte Pow Wow attracted about 300 spectators Saturday to the grounds at Buffalo Bill State Historical Park in the northwest corner of the city. The third and final day of the Pow Wow, with honor to all military veterans, began Sunday at 11 a.m. with seven Quilt of Valor presentations to veterans.
