Waukee CSD Alum Drafted to MLB
Jackson Wentworth, a 2021 graduate of Waukee High School, has been selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2024 Major Baseball League (MLB) draft. While in high school, Jackson won 17 games as a starting pitcher, helped lead the Warriors to two state tournaments, and was ranked as the No. 2 right-handed pitcher in the state by Perfect Game. Jackson was named first team all-state his senior year and holds the school record in strikeouts with 216.
Driver flown to KC hospital after car bursts into flames on Missouri Highway
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A woman is fighting for her life at a Kansas City hospital after her vehicle caught fire during a crash along a rural Missouri highway. OSKALOOSA — The Southern Iowa Fair hosted the 6th Annual Caleb Hammond Memorial Race on Wednesday, July 17th with a packed infield and a full grandstand on a beautiful night for racing at the Southern Iowa Speedway. The largest field of drivers in 2024 were in attendance gunning for their share of over $18,000 in prize money, thanks to the Southern Iowa Fair board and Race Committee along with event sponsors, Copeland Auto Body, Lathrop and Sons Supply of Albia and contributor Mike Stroehle.
